SYC x JEAN HALL
ARAMBOL, GOA, INDIA
23.02.18 – 05.03.18
Next year, we want to take you away somewhere magic. A country where the sun rises gently and prayer and music carry through the air. A colorful pocket of the world that saw the birth of yoga. A wild, abundant place for you to escape the frost and warm your winter bones.
In February, you’re invited to join Jean Hall for 10 days in Goa, India. We’ll be staying at Samata, a beautiful holistic retreat centre that’s tucked away from the livelier parts of Goa you may be familiar with. Samata’s calming bamboo shalas, organic garden and sapphire swimming pool make it an exotic, magical haven, far away from the churn of city life.
We’ve curated a retreat that includes a handful of explorative movement and meditation practises.
Each day will open with a two hour morning yoga class that will begin somatically and gently, progressing into a more dynamic flow, invigorating and cleansing the body, focusing and calming the mind.
Gentler evening Yoga will explore asanas and pranayama, refining awareness and clarifying attention. We’ll also be treating you to Yoga Nidra, intuitive dance and healing sound meditation, cultivating creative expression and inner balance.
Jean’s teaching is rooted in her enjoyment of assisting bodies and minds to open up to their strength, freedom and potential. As a lifelong lover of movement and creativity Jean has spent much of her life exploring body work disciplines, travelling and practicing yoga.
Having discovered yoga whilst training as a dancer it soon became an integral part of her life, developing alongside her career as a performer and also her own personal learning and exploration.
In 1995 she qualified as a Iyengar yoga teacher and since then she has continued to study different forms of yoga with many great teachers from many diverse backgrounds including Geeta Iyengar and Sri K Pattahbi Jois, as well as being self taught and working with more unconventional teachers such as Gill Clarke and Paddy McGrath.
Jean teaches a deep and soulful slow flow form of yoga. She is known for her unique creative sequencing of postures which helps to draw students and teachers beyond limitations and closer to their true potential and confidence through the ancient yogic system of asanas, mindful breathing and meditation with an approach of devotion and playfulness.
She is one of the U.K’s leading yoga teachers as well as senior faculty member of the triyoga teaching training programme and author of published yoga books:
Yoga, a practical guide to yoga postures – Abbeydale Press
Ashtanga Yoga, a in-depth guide to the primary series – Anness Books

** We will have a lovely photographer travelling with us. We like to work with our friends to create honest, natural imagery for our website. Often this imagery is scenic. We are never intrusive and are sensitive and respectful of the privacy of our guests. If you prefer to be out of shot, just let us know and we will make sure we honour this on the retreat.
