SYC x JEAN HALL
ARAMBOL, GOA, INDIA
31.01.20 – 09.02.20
We’re delighted to invite you to return with us to Goa, to enjoy the beauty of Jean’s teachings in the lush birthplace of yoga.
Our home for the retreat is a tropical haven, nestled amongst the palm trees. Exotic birdsong heralds the mornings, afternoons carry the song of prayer on a whisp of incense, and our evening sessions brings us back to earth, as the sweet haze of dusk descends.
We’ve curated a retreat that includes a handful of explorative movement and meditation practises. Each of Jean’s offerings are precious and unique. Her asana teachings are kinetic poetry: nuanced, visually evocative and wise.
Together, we’ll embark on a journey celebrating the lyricism of the body through movement and the breath as a portal into peace and expansion.
Each day will have a two hour asana practise. Starting gently, class always begins somatically, turning our gaze within to explore the cosmic dimensions of presence with pranayama.
We’ll segue into asana on the undulations of the breath, progressing into a more dynamic flow, invigorating and cleansing the body, focusing and calming the mind.
Jean guides us through elegant sequences that work organically with the natural inclinations of our bodies. Each class animates yogic philosophy, as Jean evokes ancient teachings, weaving them seamlessly through the practice.
Gentler evening yoga will explore restorative asana, inversions and pranayama, refining awareness and clarifying attention.
For the afternoon, two of Goa’s most beautiful wild beaches are five minutes away. It’s a pleasure to take our bodies to the sea each day and let our minds open to the vast horizon.
Meal times are also a joy. The dishes are all hand-made with ingredients from the garden – we see the limes for the pickle drying in the sun and the vegetables being picked in the mornings.
We’ll be in India for ten days: the perfect amount of time to slowly coax our minds into the poignancy of our bodies, inviting nature to do its sweet work on a cellular level, as we gently unfurl in the honeyed sun.
One of London’s most experienced and inspirational teachers, Jean heads a number of trainings at Triyoga and is brilliant at guiding both beginners and advanced practitioners.
Everyone is welcome.
Jean’s teaching is rooted in her enjoyment of assisting bodies and minds to open up to their strength, freedom and potential. As a lifelong lover of movement and creativity Jean has spent much of her life exploring body work disciplines, travelling and practicing yoga.
Having discovered yoga whilst training as a dancer it soon became an integral part of her life, developing alongside her career as a performer and also her own personal learning and exploration.
In 1995 she qualified as a Iyengar yoga teacher and since then she has continued to study different forms of yoga with many great teachers from many diverse backgrounds including Geeta Iyengar and Sri K Pattahbi Jois, as well as being self taught and working with more unconventional teachers such as Gill Clarke and Paddy McGrath.
Jean teaches a deep and soulful slow flow form of yoga. She is known for her unique creative sequencing of postures which helps to draw students and teachers beyond limitations and closer to their true potential and confidence through the ancient yogic system of asanas, mindful breathing and meditation with an approach of devotion and playfulness.
She is one of the U.K’s leading yoga teachers as well as senior faculty member of the triyoga teaching training programme and author of published yoga books:
Yoga, a practical guide to yoga postures – Abbeydale Press
Ashtanga Yoga, a in-depth guide to the primary series – Anness Books
