Celestial Breath and Sound Journey

03.06.19

7.00pm – 9.00pm

130a Amhurst Road, E8 2AG

Part of our new regular event series, these sessions use sound and breathwork to carry you deep into your mysterious inner realm.

By playing with the breath, we not only flood the body with oxygen, but we also channel and unblock the subtle energy animating each tiny cell in our body.

Certain patterns of breathing instantly shift the atmosphere of your inner world and decompress your body. The sound is irresistible to the thinking mind. At some point it sighs and surrenders into a vortex which can, if you’re lucky, be colourful and psychedelic

Each month, we’ll journey together into expanded liminal states that are deeply restorative and can spark moments of inspiration or illumination. As soon as you surrender, the answers often appear.

If this sounds too trippy for you, the less romantic way to explain it is that we use the breath to manipulate our nervous system. The central nervous system controls all the (mainly) unconscious systems in the body, including: heart rate, breathing, sweating, arousal and digestion.

It has two divisions. The sympathetic puts your body in a state of high alert and activates your flight and fight response. This triggers a cascade of hormones that are necessary to motivate us to fight for survival, but can be corrosive if not discharged, which is why ‘stress hormones’ such as cortisol and adrenaline can fizz around our bodies leaving us feeling anxious, restless and sometimes leading to more serious illness.

The parasympathetic is the opposing branch of the nervous system. When this is dominant, the heart rate slows and we sink into a state where our bodies restore and digest.

In order to function effectively, we have to be able to move between the two, though we often become stuck in the sympathetic due to city life.  Both breathwork and sound can manipulate the nervous system, so we train it to rebalance itself and allow us time to remember how to rest and nourish ourselves.

We look forward to journeying with you fine souls.

Love,

Gabrielle Hales

~

Gabrielle has been teaching for seven years and her offering has slowly evolved with her practise. Her priority is to create a compassionate space for people to explore their physical landscape and breath as portal into the energy body and the subtler realms within and without.

As many yogis discovered thousands of years ago, she too observed how her body hoarded habits and memories (samskaras) and that movement and breath work was the most effective way to release these tensions, to celebrate the body and awaken the mind. It is only through releasing these ghosts and our conditioning, that we are able to see the world clearly and move through life from a space clarity and connection.

She teaches a slow, mindful flow, prefaced with some kind of pranayama to draw people to the innerworld. She’s interested in finding different ways to explore the body, seeking different words to communicate and new experiences to awaken. She closes classes singing with crystal bowls, to create a nourishing space for people to soften more deeply into themselves.

Gabrielle started Secret Yoga Club four years ago to gather a community of people who are interested in discovering themselves through creative, multidimensional experiences. SYC supports its ever growing family of practitioners and treasures on going working relationships. It seeks to evolve endlessly and introduce different healing modalities to its expanding community of beautiful, inquisitive people.
