Jayna (KIND Yoga) and Gabrielle (Secret Yoga Club) invite you to a winter warmer retreat in 12th century Butley Priory of Suffolk.
Just before you dive into a sea of mulled wine, mince pies and tinsel, we welcome you to a weekend designed to cover you in love, reawaken your body, fill your soul with magic and within these sacred grounds return you to a place of integration and expansion.
Using the Chakra system as a framework for the retreat, we’ll scan the body to identify physical and energetic blockages, and explore how this ancient philosophy can guide you through a practical journey of self enquiry. From our little toes to our heads, we’ll explore our inner poetry, re-orientating us out of the thinking mind, and dropping down into our own physicality, rooting deeply into our flesh and bones.
We believe, like life, our practice is multidimensional, both we and yoga are limitless. As well as vinyasa and restorative yoga, we’ll be taking the practice off the mat to work with all of our senses. Expect some winter woodland walks and explorations of the Suffolk countryside. Nature will be there to guide us through our journey, as we nestle around log fires, drinking hot cocoa and roasting chestnuts.
Moving from the physical realm to the more subtle, we’ll explore the oceanic vastness of the breath, through a number of different breathing exercises. We will observe how it can be manipulated to create different effects within the body-mind. The voice is also a potent tool for empowerment. Ever wondered why it feels so good to sing in the shower? We’ll work with our voices, in a non-intimidating way, releasing and tuning, so that we recharge and shine with our own sound.
This leads us to meditation as the final piece. Allowing space to be quiet and dwell in stillness.
This will help us reorientate back in our hearts and make decisions from a place of intuition.
With all the external information we take in from our busy lives, it’s tricky sometimes to know what we truly want. Now we can allow ourselves that crucial time and space to listen within.
If this all sounds a little bit far out for you, don’t worry. The retreat will be very real with lots of space for resting, reading and doing your thing. What’s most important to us is that we nurture and indulge you in loveliness so you leave feeling juicy, refreshed and inspired.
Our super power is packaging the magic up in a way that appeals to everyone, yogis and newbies alike.
Jayna originally trained as a dancer before falling in love with Yoga in India in 2010. Her experience from dance and her various training around the world have given her classes a unique style with a focus on loving the self.
Jayna started teaching at KIND Yoga 4 years ago. Her classes range from slow, connected flows, to dynamic vinyasa practices, whatever is needed in the moment to integrate the body, mind and heart. Her focus is on the connection to the spirit in combination with strength of the body and correct alignment. Jayna’s KIND classes nourish and support whoever is on the mat, whether you are a total beginner or experienced Yogi. Music plays a big importance in her practice whether in the form of live music, playlists, mantras or group soundings.
It took a stint at a corporate global PR agency for Gabrielle Hales to realise that no, office life was not for her. One ticket to India later, she found herself teaching yoga and eager to share all the amazing things she’d learnt upon her return.
Beginning with classes in her own living room, the word spread and these events became so popular that she sought out ever-more exciting venues to host events in, bringing an extra element by working with up-and-coming chefs to expand them into yoga supper clubs.
Elements of immersive sound therapy and live music soon followed as part of Gabrielle’s mission to introduce a new sense of warmth and generosity to the yoga community – creating a new setting for yoga practice that was more sociable and less solitary, while breaking the assumption that a healthy lifestyle doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy nourishing food.
Now? Gabrielle’s pushing SYC to the next level, aiming to inspire people to experience practices that improve happiness and well-being. Oh, and with plenty of fun, too.
Butley Priory is one of the most atmospheric and unusual houses in England.
A former Augustinian monastery, with its fabulous stone vaulted arches, huge fireplaces and enormous bedrooms, the very fabric of the building is steeped in romance and history.
It has been lovingly converted over the years to become a truly comfortable family house. Deep in the beautiful countryside of the Suffolk coast, it now makes the perfect oasis to relax.

HOW TO GET THERE
Two hours from London on the East Anglian Coast.
Train station: The closest train station is called Melton, Suffolk and is a 15 minute drive away from the house.
Taxi: Butley Priory is 10 – 15 minutes in a taxi from Melton station. *Travel is not included in the ticket prices below.
